Logan, Wolverine, James Howlett.

He's been known by many names, and every writer and artist that contributed to creating his life on paper will agree with me:

He is the best there is at what he does, and what he does best isn't very nice!

I was only 10 when I picked up a copy of Alpha Flight Special and Detective Comics from a small shop in a mall in Colombo, Sri Lanka. From that moment in time, Logan has been present in my life constantly for the past 18 years.

Created by Roy Thomas and Len Wein together with artist John Romita Sr., Wolverine first appeared in The Incredible Hulk comic book. He's been called the James Dean of superheroes: the safe "bad boy" with a short fuse and a tender heart—the loner who longs to belong.

For a long time, he existed without a back-story, not only not remembering his past but not really having a past. And that was part of the appeal of the character, for me at least. It allowed me to create origin stories for him in my head and connect imaginary storylines that I made with the ones ongoing in the X-Men comics.

Then, around 2001 he got a back-story. From Logan, he became James Howlett, born to a wealthy Canadian family at the end of the 19th century; The son of Mrs Elizabeth Howlett and her husband's employee, Thomas Logan.

Slowly, I started to understand my fascination with this character better and, in the process, began to better understand myself. He got me writing and made me better understand the world around me from a loner's perspective. A perspective I knew very well.

His back-story grew, and next to Batman, he is by far the only other comic book character that fascinated me to such a degree that I followed it closely over the years.

This is why, out of all the characters, Logan will have three separate playlists. This is the first one that I will share over the coming months.
