When I was little I took the A Night at the Roxbury soundtrack cd from my dad’s collection of music and never gave it back. I danced to it and played it until it wouldn’t play anymore. Car rides were accompanied by scores from films by Alfred Hitchcock, songs from Edward Scissorhands and The Pink Panther, maybe followed by a Frank Sinatra tune or perhaps a song by Alanis Morrisete via my mother’s eclectic and strangely jumbled together mix CDs.
I was always very aware of the music in films, and as I got older I discovered many of the artists that I still love today by always paying attention to even the quietest melody playing on a car stereo or bedroom radio in the background of the images on the screen. This mix spans movies and songs that have stuck with me from my childhood to the present, picked especially for grey winter days.
