First session of Black Rhino Artist in Residence programme brings together Valerinne (RO) and Mytrip (BG). While Valerinne’s music takes an organic approach to the post-rock genre, Mytrip comes and completes the journey with sounds gravitating around ambient and drone.
After a two day session in studio we are happy to present Kaiwa - a music collaboration of Vallerine and Mytrip.

Each residency aims to promote the process of collaboration, producing and recording a song. It interests us how artists work and negotiate musical ideas in order to reach a common goal. You can listen the full track on Soundcloud and watch the documented video of this residency episode on YouTube. The video version also features interviews with the artists. You can purchase the track following our Bandcamp page.

Recording, mixing & mastering by Marius Costache at Studio148.

Words about Valerinne:
Bucharest based band Valerinne came together in early 2012, when Alexandru Daș (guitar/synths/soundscapes), Liviu Stoicescu (bass) and Mircea Smărăndache (drums), joined efforts in their desire to play instrumental, atmospheric, haunting, loud and emotional music, completed by live visuals.
Valerinne’s music takes an organic approach to the post-rock genre. The compositions are ample and dramatic, almost soundtrack-like and evoke a wide range of mental images. The sound spectrum swings from dreamy and fragile to gloomy walls of noise and harsh brutal droning sound intensity.
The band released its debut album, Kunstformen der Natur, in late 2012. Since then they have embarked on a European tour together with Bucharest ambient/drone band Environments, have shared the stage with Amenra, Rosetta, North, Environments, Atlantis, Maybeshewill, Tides from Nebula, Our Ceasing Voice, Stephen O'Malley and have played at the 2013 Dunk! Festival. At the end of 2013 the band released its second album, Arborescent, which thakes the aesthetic of their first release further, yet sounds completely different. In 2016 synths became an integral part of the band’s sound on their third album, Monumenta and the split EP with TAUUSK, Telemetry. The band is currently in the preproduction stages of their next album, Desire, due in 2018.

Words about Mytrip:
Mytrip is a solo project of Angel Simitchiev, a Sound Art lecturer in Sofia's National Academy of Arts and an artist whose work is often found in collaboration with video art, theatre, fashion, contemporary dance and performance. With a background in the hardcore/punk scene Angel has turned Mytrip in an aggressive live experience while still exploring sound gravitating around ambient and drone.
Mytrip has been around for a decade now, mostly releasing music on tapes and vinyl. The past few years Mytrip has been performing live in England, France, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Greece, Romania, Serbia and of course all around Bulgaria.
