First 2018's session of our Artist in Residence programme brings together Esqu, Brusten and Vapor. A joint venture between the hip hop sound of Esqu, the drum and bass influence of Brusten and the fast and sharp rhymes of Mc Vapor. Each residency aims to promote the process of collaboration, producing and recording a song. It interests us how artists work and negotiate musical ideas in order to reach a common goal. We are happy to present you the result of this session by introducing the song Devious. You can listen the full track on Soundcloud and watch the documented video of this residency on YouTube. The video version also features interviews with the artists.

You can purchase the track following our Bandcamp page.
Recording, mixing and mastering by Low Freq at Black Rhino Studio.
Video, edit and photos by Good stuff.

Words about Esqu:

Esqu is a 25 year old Romanian electronic music producer currently living in Bucharest. His style is strongly influenced by hip hop but his music is full of elements coming all over the musical genre. His mixture of beats and percussions makes every track he puts his fingers on to have a recognizable sound, the sound of Esqu. At the moment,Esqu is one half of the duo project called OHMYGOD, alongside his fellow producer Gypsy Mamba (LA, USA). They are expecting the release of their first album, "Hurry up and wait", which will be out this year in both digital and vinyl format at Alpha Pup Records. At the same time, Esqu is currently working with Romanian hip hop artist Maximilian on his new album as a producer and mixing engineer.

Words about Brusten:

Brusten started his activity related to bass music movement in 2008, in Coolcat Club where he organised a series of weekly events called Blast. In 2008 he also became a resident Dj at the events held in Fabrica. His first productions came out in 2011, extending now with many new releases outside the country  and many more remixes for various artists. His tunes were broadcast  on BBC Radio1 Xtra, Dj Mag, Bassdrive, Longitude.fm, Sub.fm, Radio Guerilla and several other podcasts such as Cranium Sessions by Amoss and so on.
In 2012 he founded a radio show at Radio Romania- Radio3Net (alongside Tremour, Adrian Jumuga). The show had the purpose of promoting quality bass music producers and dj’s (mainly from Romania).
In 2018 Brusten is focused on collaborating with Hangout Music, where he is the main representative of The Grey Division. He is working at a 11 tracks compilation, a vinyl release on 12”, a tape release and several other digital releases.  The Grey Division promises another vinyl release so stay tuned because the plans for 2018 are to be announced.

Words about Vapor:

Vapor is the on-stage embodiment of Theo, born and raised in Bucuresti. He is an underground rapper that burst on the scene alongside hip-hop-reggae-ska-dub-rock-and-more band, Basska. They recently joined the Culese din Cartier crew, and are getting ready for their second release. Vapor also has his first hip-hop project on the way, entirely produced by Nerub.
You can't really find Vapor on social media, but you can follow Basska on Facebook and Soundcloud.

A conversation with Ocean Wisdom

Codin Oraseanu - Aug 13, 2018

The 25 years old, Camden born, Ocean Wisdom, impressed me since his debut album in 2016. With Chaos 93’ Ocean announced his future supremacy. He brought something new – a really fast flow, a good understanding of both hip hop and grime and a dedication to work.

Smida. The jazz experiment

Codin Oraseanu - Aug 08, 2018

Looking at the world of music one could live a feeling of hope. There are a lot of good musicians, passionate promoters and public eager to hear new sounds. Of course, things don’t move always as fast as we would like, but still, things are changing for the best for those who work and follow their path.
